“She’s Calling” - a song about disregard

I wouldn’t consider myself a political artist, but every once and a while I have a thought or two…

Story Pairing

I had a bunch of stuff written, but it got real preachy real fast. I’ll keep this one simple. This cartoon I saw the other day I think sums it up better than my ramblings can (I had shared it on my socials the other day).

I think this tune has some great lines in it, and I appreciate the muse throwing me some bits of lyrical interest. I think this year I am going to try and be a little less nervous about scaring people off when I have an opinion that I want to share. I’m a strong proponent of being open minded and recognizing our similarities before our differences, but the idea of putting monetary wealth and power over the preservation and reverent stewardship of natural wonders… I don’t have any issues planting my flag on that hill.

Thank you for listening, and I hope you take a walk outside today. If it’s too cold or too hot, get over it.

Lyrics

She's calling, we don’t listen no

She's calling, we don’t listen no

Too focused on the profit to pick up on the pain

She's shaking and shes screaming, begging us like rain

We sit and count the paper in the eye of a hurricane

She's calling

Well the preening politicians in their monday morning best

Go to war with their opinions and disregard the rest

They’ve been tethered to the company that flashes the most pay

Set aside their needy conscience it’s always getting in the way

See the people that selected those dogs in cloaks of wool

Just want jugs of fresh water and to keep their children full

And to breath in air not poison to lean into a breeze

Mother earth is fading, she's losing out to greed

Chorus (short)

The bill that stops the building of another dirty mine

Starts to step on someone's wallet, so they say that it’s just fine

What's a little more pollution when it means a slew of jobs

If we lose a couple workers, the top still likes those odds

It’s all buddies in the courtroom, the characters from before

They got the chair they wanted, so don’t hear us anymore

As long as we’re all bickering in the pits the built below

They treat her as they please, and we will never know

Chorus (short)

As they burn their mounds of tires, and petrol by the ton

They charge 10 cents a bag for the groceries when were done

Even though their giant shoulders inflated from the gluttony

Could hold a little burden, it gets passed to you and me

They’ve fooled us into thinking the only thing that matters

Is how much can you sell it for to keep climbing man made ladders

There's no time for nature walking or for sitting under trees

We’ll cut them down for mansions, to hide from all her pleas

Chorus (long)

Maybe there's a message, maybe there's a chance

If we free our public servants from the corporation trance

When numbers on a ledger start to come in second place

To the health of the only home that holds the human race

Then we can start connecting with our neighbors like we should

Stop fighting over diversions like they knew that we all would

They can have all the dollars, I’ll take deep breaths and take love

Practicing my sorrys, when she rings I’m picking up
