“Happy Happy” - a song about obsession

Story Pairing

I’ve been staring at this computer screen for almost an hour not really able to find a way to put into words what went into this song. I keep grabbing my phone and wasting time by scrolling instead of putting words down that mean something to me.

I’ve never really had an addictive personality, but I’ve seen a little of what it can be like. That’s the power of a song I think. It can take a whisper of a thing, something you may know very little about, and it can create a tether that others can latch on to to find some common ground.

The concept of wanting to be happy belongs to all of us. The way we go about finding that happiness is what changes. The roads may shift, but the end goals are what we can relate to. The individual journeys we have to get to a place are different, but we can also find mutual understanding that every journey has its ups and downs, twists and turns. The ups are always being chased, the downs give up perspective as to what it is that really makes us shine, and the twists and turns are how life tests our mettle.

I hope that the songs I write carry a little part of everyone I’ve ever been so lucky to cross paths with. Where we came from and where we are going may be different, maybe we walk side by side for two steps or a hundred, maybe we only see each other from a distance. Regardless of proximity or potency, we are pulling from the same giant hat of scenarios. Our slips of paper may not match, but if we are lucky enough to hold hands for a moment before we read our next instructions, then we are lucky indeed.

To everyone and anyone that has found a footing in a song that I’ve written, know that I love you.

Lyrics

So you want to be happy

Turns out you're in luck

That’s what I’m selling today

Down payments are only a buck

So you want to be joyful

Get up off of your knees

Pray to keep the blues away

That’s my expertise

You’ll be happy for a little while

This is sure to make you smile

Guarantee to put you at ease

I’ll be right around the corner

When you need another dose from me

So you want to be bigtime

See what we can do

Find a couple others who want to be bigtime too

So you want to be patient

I’ll get you some more

Don’t you worry about a thing my dear

You got credit at this company store

You’ll be happy for a little while

This is sure to make you smile

Guarantee to put you at ease

I’ll be right around the corner

When you need another dose from me

So you want to be free now

And never see me again

Just a little problem with that

We’re contractually friends

So you want to be happy

Comes with regrets

The devil ain't real

But honey, I’m as close as it gets x2

You’ll be happy for a little while

This is sure to make you smile

Guarantee to put you at ease

I’ll be right around the corner

When you need another dose from me

I’ll be right around the corner

When you need another dose from me

I’ll be right around the corner

When you need another dose from me
